1. “When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:” 

- Proverbs 2:10-11 KJV. 

Why is it one of my favorites? Because I’ve always believed that the more we understand something, the less it can hurt us.

2. “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.” 

- Proverbs 16:32 KJV.  

I love this one because, even though sometimes I get angry easy, I’m happy about the fact that I can often take turmoil in heaps before I ever react.

3. “Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.” 

- Proverbs 17:5 KJV.  

I love this one because I don’t believe people are disposable. I know that being a conduit for love, knowledge and resources is who we are supposed to be.

4. “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” 

- Proverbs 30:5 KJV. 

One of my favs because a few years before writing this I attended a sermon about how we should put God first and everything else will fall in line. Grace and I tried it and amazing things happened. I wrote an article about it called Putting God First

5. “A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.” 

- Proverbs 29:5 KJV. 

I love this one because it speaks about a game I can’t stand. When two people don’t like each other, there’s often a race between them, to quickly convince others why the other person is the “bad” person. It ends badly for everyone, even the person doing the convincing. See my article Walls (1/7) Filling in the Blanks

6. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” 

- Proverbs 29:2 KJV. 

I’ve spent my life looking at things that most people pay no attention to. One of them is the problem of who really has most control on Earth. Another is that most of us don’t know we’re mourning over it. See my podcast Everyday Consequences

7. “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” 

- Proverbs 28:1 KJV. 

What’s the reason I love this one? It starts with the mistakes I’ve made myself. It continues with the knowledge that my savior died so I can overcome those mistakes. It ends with a beautiful realization; the only beings that are actually qualified to judge me are not my human critics (who hide their own poor behavior); they are only God and Christ. That frees me from the friend-of-the-world-game, so I can focus on the Holy Trinity; and that’s a wonderful feeling.
