One thing that fascinates me about books is that they’re sort of like a time machine. When I pick up a book that someone read hundreds or thousands of years ago; in a way I’m sharing a moment with that person, almost as if I’m right there with them. So I’m excited knowing that I've read many of the same scriptures that Christ read. And even more interesting is that I often use those scriptures in the same ways he did. So it's a confirmation that God's word is the tool he meant it to be. That’s why this is one of my favorite 7’s lists. So here they are; 7 scriptures Christ used to not only teach others, but to defend himself against darkness. See more about the use of scriptures for protection in my article Fight Right - Scripture for Battle

1. “And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”

- Luke 4:3-4 KJV (Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy 8:3)

2. “And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

- Luke 4:6-8 KJV (Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy 6:13)

3. “The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,”

- Matthew 19:3-4 KJV (Jesus was quoting Genesis 1:27)

4. “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”

- Matthew 22:37-38 KJV (Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy 6:5)

5. “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:”

- Matthew 5:21 KJV (Jesus was quoting Exodus 20:13)

6. “For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.”

- Matthew 15:4 KJV (Jesus was quoting Exodus 20:12)

7. “Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:”

- Matthew 5:33 KJV (Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy 23:21)
